- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- Filling:
- 3 apples, peeled, cored and cut into thin slices
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1 tbsp melted butter
- Topping:
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup Diamond of California® Chopped Walnuts
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
The Steps
- Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a 9×13 baking dish with parchment paper.
- In the bowl of an electric mixer, combine the butter and brown sugar. Beat on high for 2 minutes until light and fluffy. Add the salt and flour, mix until just combined.
- Press the dough into the bottom of the baking dish in an even layer. Use a fork to poke several holes in the bottom of the crust and bake for 12 minutes.
- While the shortbread bakes, toss the apples with the cinnamon, nutmeg and melted butter. Spread the apple mixture in an even layer over the baked shortbread.
- In a small bowl, combine all of the topping ingredients. Use your finger tips to combine until pea sized pieces form. Sprinkle evenly over the apples.
- Bake for an additional 35 to 40 minutes.
- Cool completely in pan before slicing.
